IRON CRUSADE: MEDCHG01

Scenario edited by: Hector Gomez HARPBBS# 879

Background: Spring 1995, The Soviets have launched a land, sea and
air "Blitz" in Europe. NATO has declared the Med as a
focal point in securing the RED forces from advancing
to North Africa as well as the oil rich kingdoms of the
Mid-East. Naval doctrine dictates that sea lanes from
Europe to the Suez Canal provides logistical advantages
to those who control it. In terms of overall strategy,
the Med is the only gateway for vital BLUE naval rein-
forcements being deployed from the U.S. Seventh Fleet
            based in Subic Bay, Philippines.

Situation: Israel has reported that a major Soviet task force
combined with Syrian armored divisions have smashed
through the Golan Heights early today. All Israeli
armed forces have retreated to Tel Aviv and Haifa
after being crushed by first line Soviet Blackjacks,
Backfires, and Foxhounds. Tactical nukes have
            obliterated major defensive strongholds including
SAM batteries all over the Jewish state. It has also
been rumored that Egypt, Libya and Iraq have mobilized
heavy infantry formations poised to strike in the next
few days. High speed missile boats have been seen
skimming the shores of Lebanon bearing Islamic insignias.

Intelligence:
NATO recon birds (satellites) have scanned the region
            and has observed the following:
            1. Israeli defensive units have taken positions along
               the western banks.
            2. A large Soviet naval armada has been jamming radar
frequencies from North of Syria to the outskirts of
               Cairo in Egypt.
            3. The RED forces have sortied air assets on a bomber-
solo type configuration. Hints of a nuclear load.

Blue Orders:
Using a US twin CVBG formation, secure the coast of
Israel from the Soviet Navy. Be prepared to engage
hostile RED forces if necessary. Do not initiate
a nuclear first strike. Nuclear release will only
be granted if RED initiates the nuke attack.
Remember, your main objective is to reach Israel and
be on station at the coast of Haifa for a minimum of
12 hrs. Protect your carriers as well as your large
            combat ships!
NOTE: This scenario requires the destruction of 2
Syrian bases for its minimum victory conditions.

Playing Variations:
To fully exploit the enhancements made in this scenario,
try to play the simulation using a single CVBG formation
on your first attempt then, split the CVBG into two
battlegroups next time you play. There is enough
variable conditions in this setup to accommodate a
multi-start as well as multi-path mix.

Scenario requirements:
When playing this scenario I recommend the following:
           1. Set game parameters to "IGNORE ships running aground".
           2. Disable all memory resident programs since this scenario
              requires 583k memory.

NOTE: It helps to obtain an UPGRADE MS-DOS 5.0 for your
operating system since it saves your 640k base
memory from excessive "tapping in" by lower DOS
versions. (as we HARPOONERs say -- We need all
the memory we can get --). Its just too bad that
since this is new technology, there has been no
SHAREWARE yet available for this truuuuuly
important breakthrough ..... bad luck for us
who couldn't shell out $65.00 for a store copy.

Finally:
Please feel free to send me your feedback on this scenario.
Your comments will be highly appreciated. I welcome
corrections on any deficiencies you might encounter.
          Send them over to: E-mail user# 879 @7851

                                  as always.... ENJOY!
